Empowering Girls Through Code

Join the Girls Can Code Initiative and unlock your potential in the tech world. Our mission is to inspire and equip girls with the skills they need to lead in technology.

About Girls Can Code Initiative (GCCI)

Girls Can Code Initiative (GCCI) is a pan-African platform empowering girls and young women with coding, digital technology, and AI skills. Our mission is to foster inclusive learning, mentorship, and collaboration, cultivating a new generation of confident female tech leaders across Africa.

We believe the digital future must include women at every level — as creators, innovators, and decision-makers. Through free training, expert-led webinars, structured mentorship, and community support, GCCI connects aspiring young learners with experienced professionals from across the continent and beyond.

Our Goals

  • Provide access to coding and AI education for girls at all levels
  • Enable mentorship and role-modeling from senior women in tech
  • Build a supportive community where girls learn, share, and grow
  • Create pathways to opportunities — careers, projects, innovation, entrepreneurship

Why We Exist

Too many girls still lack exposure, confidence, or guidance to enter the technology space. GCCI exists to close that gap — unlocking talent that would otherwise remain hidden.

Our Vision

A future where every African girl can code, create, and lead — and where women are fully represented in the digital transformation of our continent.

Join us in this movement.
Together — we will build a more inclusive tech industry and open new doors for young women.

Latest News — GCCI Announces Its First Official Organizational Structure (2025)

Girls Can Code Initiative (GCCI) is excited to announce the establishment of our first official organizational structure, marking a major milestone in our growth as a pan-African movement supporting girls and young women in tech.

This structure was developed based on the interest areas and volunteer role preferences expressed by our members and has now been reviewed, endorsed, and officially approved by the GCCI Advisory Board.

The new structure includes leadership appointments across Advisory Board, Technology, Program Coordination, Communication, Marketing, and Content Development.

Key highlights include:

  • Formation of an Advisory Board led by Dr. Walelign Tewabe (Board Chair)
  • Creation of core leadership roles (CTO, Program Coordination, M&E, Youth Engagement)
  • Establishment of operational task teams (Communication, Marketing, Content Development)
  • Introduction of clear support functions such as Training Logistics & Recruitment Coordination

This professional structure will enable GCCI to operate more efficiently, deliver stronger training programs, strengthen partnerships, and increase impact across the continent.

This is a historic foundation moment — the first official structure of GCCI — and a strong statement of our commitment to sustainable growth, transparency, and organized execution.
